2018 USMS Spring Nationals – 101:
When swimming out of State or at USMS National Championships, all Michigan Masters swimmers swim as one Team – “Michigan Masters Team” (not MAC). Every swimmer that enters will get a FREE Michigan Masters red team T-Shirt, red team 1/2 zip warm up and red team cap, with the state logo on a red background (same logo/red, as the RED Championship Banners hanging at the pool). This is a GREAT opportunity to be part of a National swim event, on a (potentially) winning team! Just like State Meet all your individual events and relays have a point value so every swim COUNTS! Even if you don’t qualify for an event, if you swim it and place (1st-10th) you’ll add to the overall teams points, and relay points count as double points! It’s a good idea to look back over that past couple of years (especially 2013 when Nationals was in Indianapolis because there are less swimmers than when it is on the west coast) and see which events have less swimmers and where you think you could score points.
The MAC coaching staff has been asked to coach the entire Michigan Masters 2018 Spring Nationals Team! This is quite an honor. You can rest assured that the MAC coaches will take care of the Michigan Masters team, in typical MAC fashion. Getting everyone warmed-up, psyched up, and ready to swim! Skip Thompson will be formulating the relays (more info about that below).
National Qualifiying Times
Each swimmer may enter three events without any qualifying swims
Each swimmer may swim a maximum of six swims with NQTS
i.e. 1 Qualifying time plus 3 free = 4 swims, 2 Qualifying times + 3 free = 5
You must qualify for the 1650
For the National Qualifying Time Chart see the link below:
Your age for the meet is your age on May 13, 2018.
We will swim all relays with Michigan Master’s.
Friday, May 11 – 200 Mixed Freestyle and 200 Mixed Medley
Saturday, May 12 – 200 Medley (Men’s & Women’s)
Sunday, May 13 – 200 Freestyle (Men’s & Women’s)
Everyone is eligible to swim all four relays. Please e-mail Skip Thompson at thompsonfrank866@gmail to let him know which relays you are available to swim. He will need your name as it is on your USMS registration and DOB. He would also like to know what your times and which strokes are your best strokes.
This is where the coaches are staying. We just picked a hotel not too far away – we do not have a block of rooms. Hotels are booking up quickly so we advise you to book a room if you are thinking of coming. There are quite a few restaurants right by the hotel.
When you register for Nationals you will have an option to buy a 5 day parking pass for $48. There are two parking decks right by the Natatorium. You can also choose to pay for parking on campus which is anywhere from $7/hour to $25/day or make other transportation arrangements (rideshare, Uber, etc).
If you have any questions about Spring National (or anything else), don’t hesitate to talk to a coach on deck, or send us an email;
